A group of soldiers announced, Friday, September 30, on national television from Burkina Faso the sidelining of the head of the junta Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, in power for a coup on January 23, 2022 . Captain Ibrahim Traoré read a press release announcing the dissolution of the government and the suspension of the Constitution, as well as the closure of the country’s borders until further notice.
“Heavy weapons” had been heard inside the Baba Sy military camp, near the presidential palace, by several witnesses joined by Le Monde on the night of Thursday to Friday. This palace was occupied by Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba since the January coup.
