A Sunday in the countryside, on a country air. In Bram, a small village of 3,500 souls planted in the heart of Occitania, there were more than 1,700 to have responded to the invitation of Carole Delga, president of the region breaking with the new popular union, ecologist and social (NUPES ) and eager to build a new left. All week long, in the press, she had hammered her desire to build this “project between Macron’s liberalism and Mélenchon’s Bolivarism”. In the bucolic decor of the Essarts Parc, between the various thematic workshops, the interventions and speeches, or the tasting of the famous cassoulet, activists, elected or simple curious people answered in number to the call.

“This is the beginning of a new adventure,” said the former secretary of state and deputy, still as attached to his native village in Haute-Garonne and “to the values that will always carry me”. Values which had led him not to support the approach of alliance during the creation of the Nuts, however wanted by the leadership of the Socialist Party (PS). “Here, everyone is welcome, I know that the left has always known its tendencies and adversities, we want to create a new space for dialogue,” said M me Delga before his speech. In fact, within the five workshops devoted to climate, education, citizenship, work or Europe, you could meet José Bové, biologist Gilles Bœuf or Jo Spiegel, former elected official and specialist in participatory democracy.

not candidate for the PS Congress

Around the tables erected at the foot of the big stage, elected officials, activists, socialists or not. Like Jean-Charles Balardy, first federal secretary in the Tarn, for whom “the alliance of the Nuts disturbed us, we lost elected officials, we must therefore compose but build something else”. Same reflection for Christian Assaf, the president of the socialist group in the regional council, for whom “Carole Delga does an excellent work at the regional level, we must now reason at the national level”.

If she rejects the idea of being in the ban of the PS and already in the countryside for future deadlines -“I have no national ambition but ambitions for my country”, she says -, M Me Delga sets the groundwork for an approach that will continue in the coming months. She also assures that she will not be a candidate during the next National Council of the Party, early 2023. So, these “Left Meetings”, simple reflection workshops or sponsor for the renewal of the PS, or even the creation of a New party or movement? In any case, the socialist has softened her speech. No frontal attack on rebellious France (LFI), barely an allusion to the Quatennens affair, named after this Northern deputy defended by Jean-Luc Mélenchon after having recognized domestic violence, which shook the past week Party of Jean-Luc Mélenchon. “When they undergo violence, the first words must be addressed to women,” she just raised.
