COVID-19: lifting of quarantine compulsory for arrivals in Hong Kong

This is the end of more than two and a half years of international isolation for the financial center. Hongkong will lift the forties compulsory at the hotel for anyone arriving from abroad, the chief executive announced on Friday September 23. “The quarantine hotels system will be deleted,” John Lee told journalists.

Travelers will however have to submit to a PCR test when they arrive, and will not be allowed to go to bars and restaurants during the first three days. The long -awaited decision will bring relief to residents and businesses, which claimed that the Asian financial center follows the global trend by again authorizing travel without constraints.

Hongkong applied a more flexible version of the Chinese “Zero Cavid” strategy, which notably requires multiple confinements from the appearance of positive cases and PCR tests every sixty-two or forty-eight hours.

Measures such as quarantine compulsory at the hotel for people arriving from abroad – going up to twenty -one days – were applied in this special administrative region of China throughout the period of the pandemic . China is now the only great economy in the world to maintain a long period of quarantine for international arrivals.
