The distribution is completely compatible with Ubuntu, but is significantly different in approaching the organization of the user interface and the selection of applications used by default. Linux Mint developers provide a desktop-reduction that corresponds to the classic canons of the desktop organization, which is more familiar to users who do not accept new methods of building the GNOME interface 3. DVD equipment based on the membranes of Mate 1.26 (2.1 GB ), Cinnamon 5.4 (2.1 GB ) and xfce 4.16 ( 2 GB ). Linux Mint 21 is assigned to releases with a long term of support (LTS), the updates for which will be formed until 2027.
The main changes in Linux Mint 21 ( mate , cinnamon , xfce ):
- includes a new release of the Cinnamon 5.4 desktop delays, the design and organization of work in which the GNOME 2 ideas continues to develop a desktop and a panel with a menu, a fast start -up area, a list of open windows and a system tray with launched applots. Cinnamon is based on GTK and GNOME 3. The project develops the GNOME Shell shell and the MUTTER window manager in the direction of providing GNOME 2 surroundings with a more modern design and use of elements from Gnome Shell, complementing the classic desktop products. The editors with the desktop XFCE and Mate are delivered with XFCE 4.16 and Mate 1.26.
The MUFFIN window manager is transferred to the fresh code base of the METACITY 3.36 window manager, developed by the GNOME project. Initially, 11 years ago, Muffin was branched from Mutter 3.2 and has since developed in parallel. Since Muffin and Mutter code bases during this time have parted quite much and it is becoming increasingly difficult to transfer and corrections, it was decided to transfer Muffin to a more relevant Metace code base, bringing its condition to upstream. The transition demanded significant internal processing, many opportunities had to be transferred to Cinnamon, and a part was discarded. Specific changes for Metages are transferred to the screenshot of the Gome-Control-Center screen, and tinctures previously processed in CSD-Xrandr were transferred to Muffin.
