July 2022 becomes second driest month ever recorded

The month that has just passed is “second in the driest months all months combined” in France since the start of the measures in 1958, according to Météo-France. It is also the most dry July ever recorded.

July 2022 is “in the second rank of the driest months every month combined” in France since the start of the measures in 1958-1959, with a cumulation of aggregated precipitation of 9.7 millimeters, indicates Monday 1 er August Météo-France. This represents a precipitation deficit of 84 % compared to normal from the period 1991-2020.

Until now, the driest month ever recorded dates back to March 1961 with 7.8 millimeters, specifies the meteorological agency, whose first precipitation statements date back to August 1958.

July 2022 also becomes “the driest July since the start of the measures, said Météo-France. The previous records dated back to July 2020 with 16.7 millimeters of precipitation and July 1964 with 24.7 millimeters, according to the national meteorological and climatic service.
