The facts occurred when the passenger of a scooter, in possession of a “long weapon” has “turned his weapon towards police”. According to the first elements of the investigation, these are “common law facts, not at all terrorism”.
The facts took place in the city center of Grenoble Thursday July 7 at the end of the afternoon. A 24-year-old man, who was traveling on a scooter with an armed passenger, was killed by the police, learned the agency France-Presse (AFP) of concordant sources.
A police source told AFP that the driver of the scooter, dressed in a bulletproof vest, was circulating in the company of a passenger armed with a “long weapon”. The latter “started to rob his weapon towards police officers”, who shot twice, touching the driver at the head.
The prosecution clarified that the occupants of the scooter had crossed the road to two police officers who carried out a foot patrol around 6:15 pm, and that a young man aged 24, “known to the police” , was dead “on the spot despite the care provided quickly by the emergency services”. The other occupant of the scooter managed to “flee”.
Two open surveys
A weapon, “Kalashnikov type, responsible was found on the scene”, in the Hoche district sector, said in a press release the assistant prosecutor of Grenoble, Boris Duffau.
Two surveys were opened.
