Sciences PO delayed its results on Parcoursup by one week, Cascade waiting effects to be expected

The Paris Institute of Political Studies obtained an exemption to give its results on June 8 on Parcoursup, and not on June 2 at 7 p.m., like all other post-baccalaureate formations of the platform.

On Parcoursup, Sciences Po is used to having an exceptional status, even if it means making other establishments wait. This will be the case this year. The Paris Political Studies Institute (IEP) will not give its admission results on June 2 at 7 p.m., like all other post-bac training courses in the Parcoursup platform, but only on 8, as its website specifies. This delay will have cascade effects on thousands of young people who will remain “blocked” longer than expected pending a response, and who will see, thus, their uncertainty and their prolonged stress.

Sciences Po is advancing an explanation: his admission orals have been late this year because of the baccalaureate’s specialty tests. These were initially scheduled in March, before being offset, because of the pandemic, in May. So many days during which the IEP could not pass the selection interviews to its candidates, mobilized by these tests. Sciences Po, which has not organized a competition since 2021 and selects only on file and oral, would therefore not have been able to finish in time for June 2. The Paris Institute, which saw its management team change late 2021 after the resignation of Frédéric Mion, claims to have mobilized 800 examiners for its selection process.

The problem is that this change of date does not only concern the 2,000 and some young people eligible for Sciences Po, who will wait a week more before being fixed on their fate. On the platform, the candidates who passed the orals to Sciences Po Paris will have to have the results of rue Saint-Guillaume on June 8, to accept a place in another training to which they applied and keep them others pending. Even if it means renouncing it later.

“enormous consequences”

What to seize the machine and stagnate the progress of the students in the waiting lists of these other training for a few days. This derogatory calendar which benefits Sciences Po has in particular for the 10,500 candidates for the seven political studies institutes (who will give their response on June 2) or for those who have applied to the other courses traditionally acclaimed by these high school students: double licenses , Political science licenses, preparatory classes, IEP of Grenoble or Bordeaux which recruit “out of the common competition” …

“This is the flashing effect of the butterfly wings: a small decision like this then has enormous consequences, notes Pierre Mathiot, director of the IEP of Lille, head of the joint competition for the seven IEP. All IEPs have been bent to the very restrictive calendar of the ministry. We had to make an enormous effort, in particular because our correctors were also mobilized by the specialty tests of the bac. Already, Sciences Po had had an exceptional status the Last year, because they had just integrated Parcoursup … I see that this is once again the case, with chain effects for thousands of young people. “
