Vallourec will delete approximately 2,950 positions worldwide out of 17,000, the group announced in a statement on Wednesday, May 18. The closure of its German sites will lead to the abolition “of approximately 2,400 jobs”. To this will be added a reduction “approximately 550 positions” in so -called support functions.

Mid-November, the welding-free tube manufacturing company, which came out of a long financial restructuring process, had announced the sale of its German activities and the cessation of the manufacturing in Europe of tubes for industry. She provided for the transfer of part of her activities in Brazil.

Vallourec specifies Wednesday that no “credible buyer was identified” for German activities and therefore launches their closure. “The closure of German assets leads to additional rationalization of other European assets in charge of the finishing of laminated tubes in Germany,” adds Vallourec. This will result in the closure of the “heat treatment line” of the French factory of Saint-Saulve (North).

departures from the end of 2022

Of the 550 positions deleted in the rest of the world, “you have 70 in Scotland, by stopping the thread activity, whose volumes would be repatriated to the Aulnoye-Aymeries (North) site, and 320 in France, including 65 at the headquarters “de Meudon (Hauts-de-Seine), detailed the group’s CEO, Philippe Guillemot, during a conference call.

Some 250 positions will be deleted in the north of France, which are distributed between a little less than a hundred on the Saint-Saulve site, a hundred positions on the Aulnoye-Aymeries site “and the balance On the shared service center that we have in Valenciennes, “said Mr. Guillemot.

Regarding the calendar, “we are in discussions that take the time that they must take in the countries in which we operate,” replied the CEO. He envisages departures from the end of 2022 and which will spread out “all year round 2023, in particular on Germany”, since this country will continue to produce as long as the volumes which are made in Germany are not Transferred to Brazil.
