The two men had spontaneously presented to the police on Tuesday and had been placed in custody. The declarations of the two suspects before the investigators, in particular on the “chronology of events”, suggest that “the violence would be to put in connection with the behavior of the victim, to which they would have reacted by carrying him”, “said the prosecutor , without giving more details. At this stage of the investigations, “there is still no objective element to characterize a discriminatory ground, in particular anti-Semite, at the origin of the violence,” said Mathais.
On Wednesday, February 16, shortly after 8 pm, Jeremie Cohen crossed the railways when he was hit by Tramway 1 in Bobigny. A few seconds before the tragedy, he had been struck by young people. Victim of a cardio-respiratory judgment and a cranial trauma, he succumbed soon after midnight at the hospital.

A first investigation had been opened to determine the circumstances of death. “The hypothesis that the victim has crossed the tramway tracks to escape his aggressors were naturally taken into account,” said the Prosecutor of the Republic, in a press release on 4 April. On March 29, judicial information was opened from the chief of “voluntary violence in a meeting who resulted in without intention to give it,” continued the prosecutor.
According to the family of the deceased, interviewed by Radio Shalom, the young man suffered from a disability not visible. His two brothers have traded on the scene and collected a video showing part of the drama, with greatly shared on social networks on Monday.
According to a police source, a video, confirming the hypothesis of an altercation between the victim and several individuals, was received on 10 March by the investigators. The investigation was entrusted to the judicial police of the department.
