But at this time, no exit of crisis is emerging. It is perilous to risk prognosis. But it is essential to consider, among all the scenarios, the worst possible. Even among the experts of Russia, very few had planned a military operation throughout Ukrainian territory. The lesson of this error, which shares the author of these lines, seems obvious: it must no longer be committed. The worst scenario – In addition to a nuclear climbing between Russia and NATO – is the following: a Ukraine transformed into Syria, and a Russia in North Korea.
Country comparisons always have limits. Let’s start with Ukraine. In Syria, the ethnic and religious dimension, the role of the terrorist organization Islamic State are particular traits of this conflict. But these are the similarities that now matter. Vladimir Putin totally underestimated the ability to mobilize and patriotic resistance of Ukrainians.
