Saudi princess released years after imprisonment without charge

Saudi Arabia’s authorities released Princess Basma Bint Saud and her daughter Sujd Ash Sharif from prison after three years of imprisonment. This is reported by The Guardian with reference to the statements of lawyers familiar with the situation.

It is noted that they were released on January 6, after which Basma and Sukhda went home to the Saudi City of Jeddah. The princess spent the years in imprisonment, despite that she did not charge. She appealed for pardoned in April 2020, but then she was refused.

Princess disappeared in March 2019. As the media reported, she was detained when attempting to go to Switzerland for treatment. Basma – the youngest daughter of the King of Saudi Arabia Saudin Ben Abdel Aziz, now it is divorced, she has five children. In recent years, Basma has been engaged in business and participated in the activities of human rights organizations. She insisted on protecting women’s rights.
