Estimates effect of Starlink satellites for astronomy

Scientists appreciated how much Starlink satellites can prevent cosmic observations from the Earth. The study was published in the Astrophysical Journal Letters magazine.

In its study, the Specialists of the California Institute of Technology studied the archive of pictures made using telescopes under the ZWicky Transient Facility program (ZTF). Scientists noted that astronomers often refer to the satellites of the global Internet of Ilona’s misses for observation of celestial bodies. In the new scientific work, experts called insignificant Effect of Starlink Equipment on Space Study.

It turned out that in 2019 by 0.5 percent of photographs made by telescopes, traces and fragments of Starlink satellites were noticed. By August 2021, this figure rose to 18 percent. Experts suggested that by the time there will be about 10 thousand satellites in the orbit, they will fall almost all the pictures of ZTF.

Nevertheless, Professor Tom Prince (Tom Prince) believes that the satellites flying over the ground are unlikely to significantly influence astronomy. It turned out that one light band from the Starlink satellite falls less than one tenth of the percent of the pixels in the image of ZTF. The specialist noticed that the observations of the heavenly bodies prevents bad weather any more.

In August, British scientists stated that the Starlink systems are dangerous to other satellites on earth orbit. According to experts, only because of the Starlink satellites, about 1600 dangerous convergence with other objects occurs.
