Russia lost half a million young workers for year

Over the past year, from September 2020 to September 2021, the number of workers under the age of 30 years in Russia decreased almost half a million people (minus 460.5 thousand). This is stated in the study of the Finexpertiza auditing-consulting network, which refers to RBC.

The total number of employees in the country for the same period increased by 1.84 million people – up to 72.3 million. In addition to the loss of young, fewer only workers in a group over 70 years old. However, there is a drop in small – 24 thousand people.

The trend has been observed since the beginning of the 2010s, when citizens born during the demographic boom of the 1980s began to move to another age category. Since the demographic pit took place in the 1990s, the fall in the number of young workers was inevitable. In total, in September 2021, employees under 30 years in Russia were 6 million less than in August 2010.
