France, which from January 1 began to fulfill the responsibilities of the Chairman of the Council of the European Union to change Slovenia, intends to strengthen the sovereignty of Europe. This was stated by President of France Emmanuel Macron, reports Interfax.
For six months, France will represent the interests of the EU memberships to the European Commission and the European Parliament. Macron noted that sovereign Europe is, first of all, “Europe, capable of controlling its borders.” According to him, recently the importance of protecting the territory showed the “crisis on the eastern border” of the EU.
In this regard, he stressed that the protection of borders is a priority and a prerequisite for ensuring the safety of Europeans and the adoption of a migration call. It will also help to avoid high tension and hybrid wars situations, Macron added.
At the same time, German Foreign Minister Annala Berbok stated that Paris could count on full support of Berlin in this matter, writes France 24. According to her, these two countries, “as the closest friends in the heart of Europe, are particularly responsible for Unified European Union, able to act and focused on the future. ” The Government of Germany explained that rivalry between world powers, such as USA, China and Russia, negatively affects the EU.
Earlier, Russian Ambassador to Paris Alexei Bagkov expressed hope for restoring trust relations between Moscow and the European Union with the chairmanship of France in the EU Council. According to him, at the moment, anti-Russian phobias and attitudes that are not reasonable are increasing in the union, not reasonable, except for ideologized confrontation.
