2021: automotive market is not rising from historic hollow of first year of pandemic

Vehicle sales are down 25% compared to 2019, a level of substantially identical to 2020. Hybrid engines exceed the diesels.

The ARGUS highlights a 25% decrease in sales compared to 2019, or 554,000 cars. The brand of the Stellantis Group is driven by the success of its compact 208, which combines the largest number of sales in 2021, and its 2008 and 3008 SUVs.

Hybrids represent more than 17% of sales.

Renault sees its sales up 14.7% over one year and its market share fall to 16.2%, or nearly 140,000 vehicles less than in 2019. Excluding sales to professionals, it is however The economic brand of Renault, Dacia, which ranks heads with Sandero.

Ford, Nissan and Opel have also lost market share this year. Hyundai-Kia, Toyota and Tesla realize an excellent year thanks to their electric and hybrid offer. On the French market, electrical markets reach an unpublished market share of 9.8% with nearly 162,000 sold vehicles (+ 45.6% per year). Model 3, from Tesla, becomes for the first time one of the electric sales, in front of the Renault Zoe.

Hybrids now account for more than 17% of sales, and rechargeable hybrids over 8%. Together, these hybrid engines have exceeded diesel (21.1%, – 31% by volume over a year). Gasoline cars account for 40.2% of sales, with a volume down 14.2%.
