Previously, director of the Department of International Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Peter Illichiv predicted a world-wide catastrophe due to the crisis in Afghanistan, if Western countries will not defect Afghan accounts. He criticized a number of countries, including the United States, for refusing to help Afghans due to the fact that the “Taliban” capturing power in the country (prohibited in Russia the terrorist organization) will be charged.
In mid-August, after the Taliban seized power in the country, the International Monetary Fund and other Western organizations suspended the programs for supporting the Afghan economy, dependent on foreign infusion. In particular, the United States blocked access to assets for seven billion dollars, which are stored in the American Federal Reserve System. They explained their decision by the fact that they could not list funds until the new government had received international recognition. In addition, the Talibans refused to access even the national reserve of the country – the USA froze the assets of the Central Bank of Afghanistan on the accounts of their banks.
