Proton-PM proceeds to tests of RD-191 rocket engine turbine

Proton-PM (included in the integrated structure of NGO Energomash Roscosmos State Corporation) launched a stand for model testing of the turbine pump turbines of the RD-191 rocket engine.

In August-September 2021, the foundation was prepared on the countryside of the enterprise, the installation of the power plant, hydrotorosis, torque measurement systems and axial effort, pipelines were made. In early October, commissioning and primary equipment certification were carried out. The event was implemented in the framework of the investment project “Reconstruction and technical re-equipment of mechanical collecting and electroplating engine manufacturing RD-191”.

Igor Kohdov, Deputy Chief Engineer for Proton-PM Test: “Work on the commissioning of a new object is aimed at close the cycle of manufacturing a turbochargeable unit at our enterprise. We conducted four control tests of the turbine, the results of which confirmed the performance of the new stand. And the ability to provide the conditions set by the design documentation. We plan to carry out comparative tests and similar work from the engine turbine RD-191M. ”

Recall that Proton-PM put the first turbocharging unit of the RD-191 engine in May 2020. Contracts for serial production of 27 turbochargeable units, four of them have already been sent to the Customer and the engine developer – the Scientific and Production Association “Energomash” named after Academician V.P. Glush. In addition, the Perm enterprise will release three prototypes of the RD-191m engine modified by 10% by traction. The first one is planned to be made for 2022 on the new production facilities of the countryside (new louds).
