Russia’s place in policy of new German government

The new Government of the Federal Republic of Germany will choose a pragmatic approach against Russia, so there is no significant deterioration, but the main place in its German foreign policy will be assigned to relationships with the United States. This was announced in a conversation with “Tape.ru” a leading researcher at the Center for German Research Institute of Europe RAS Alexander Kamkin.

According to the specialist, the future Chancellor of Germany and the head of the Social Democratic Party (SDPG) Olaf Scholz – a supporter of strong Euro-Atlantic relations, as evidenced by his visit to Washington soon after the election in the Bundestag.

“Therefore, strategic relations with the United States will be basic for him, despite all American sanctions against European companies, despite various misunderstandings,” Kamkin said.

Speaking about Russian-German relations, the political analyst recalled that the Bild newspaper called the approach of the future chancellor to relations with Moscow “The Principle of Rustic Disco”, that is, “dance with those who are in the hall.” Kamkin in a joke noticed that the German edition was most likely due to his local disco, because on the village dances in Russia, the case could reach the fight “Wall on the wall”. “The main thing is to avoid this,” he said.

Problems may arise with a probable candidate for the post of head of the German Foreign Ministry – the head of the Green Party, Annalen Babok, which has repeatedly opposed the Russian gas pipeline “Northern Stream-2”. However, due to the coalition nature of the new Cabinet of Cabinet, Green, most likely, will move into the background of its most stringent requirements for Russia.

previously became known that the new ruling coalition of Germany agreed the composition of the Cabinet of the German government. A new chancellor was determined in the country – they will become Scholz. The procedure for its election will take place in about two weeks.
