The Russian army is not able to lead a long war in Europe, since it has limited logistics capabilities, writes on the pages of American edition War On the Rocks Military analyst Alex Vershinin.
The publication states that the main way of supplying the Russian army is the railway system, which is developed in the countries of the former USSR. It is noted that the Russian railways from most western are distinguished by a wider track. It is justified that damage to the key railway units in the countries border with Russia will create problems in supplying the Russian army in case of its occurrence to Europe.
According to the peak, this circumstance means that the Russian army is capable of a lightning war in the countries border with Russia, but has limited possibilities of conducting full-scale combat operations on large European spaces. The author is confident that the delaying of the Russian army from its large logistics nodes will allow NATO to increase its capabilities in the conflict zone.
In October, the American edition of Breaking Defense wrote that the joint teachings of Russia and Belarus “West-2021” were officially completed, leaving behind the “main issue” to the Russian army. “The real question from which the evaluation of the exercises should be noted is not that Russia brought with himself, but that Russia left after herself,” said the publication.
In September, Defence24 wrote that the basic scenario of Russia’s offensive to Poland and Lithuania involves the advancement of Russian troops in Belarus, which was worked out by Moscow and Minsk during the rear part of the joint exercises “West-2021”.
In August, the same Polish publication noted that the current state of the Russian army does not allow to ignore its possibilities for maintaining operations and regrouping forces, as well as the redirection of the Russian economy on military construction rails.
