Moldova President allocated funds to pay for Gazprom debt

President of Moldova signed a decree on the allocation of funds for paying debt to Gazprom for gas. It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the press service of the presidential administration.

It is noted that Sandu encouraged the amendments to the State Budget Act for 2021, which before that urgently were accepted by the country’s Parliament at the request of the government to allocate $ 74 million for debt payment.

Previously, the Deputy Prime Minister of Moldova Andrei Spyna promised to pay off the debt of the Russian company Gazprom for gas on time. As Spyna told, the decision on the allocation of funds was adopted by the National Commission for Emergency Situations at the end of October.

November 22, Gazprom reported that he was not received from Moldovagaza for October and November. The Russian company warned that debt must be paid within 48 hours, otherwise gas supplies will be suspended. Moldovagaz did not find a commercial decision to pay for debt and asked for help from the government. However, the authorities could not allocate money before adopting amendments.

Moldovagaz asked for a deferment from Gazprom to pay for debt and promised to translate money until November 26. The Russian company agreed to wait. At the same time, Gazprom is calculated that in the future Moldova will fulfill obligations under the contract and pay on time. Also, the Russian supplier noted that the Moldovan party fully recognizes the legality of the actions of Gazprom.
