Russia mulling to access banks to data on spouses and children of borrowers

Russian banks offered to access data on spouses and children of potential borrowers. This examines the use of a “digital profile”, report “Izvestia”.

Information from the Unified State Register of the registry office was required by financial organizations after the corresponding marks in the passport became optional. Details about children and marriage are required to assess the spending and solvency of a citizen. In addition, there are risks of challenging transactions and difficulties in the establishment of heirs.

It is noted that work on the conclusion of information through the “digital profile” is conducted in the Ministry of Media and the Federal Tax Service. It is planned to expand this list.

President of the National Council of Financial Markets Andrei Emelin noted that most banks will connect to the system after 2022. According to him, the Central Bank supports the provision of information about spouses and children to assess the risks and ensuring the rights of members of the borrower’s family.

The Bank of Russia explained that the Russians gave more than eight million agreements to transfer data through the “Digital Profile”, which indicates its in demand among both financial organizations and among citizens. This channel allows digital form services and reduces costs for checking the accuracy of information and document flow. Currently, banks can get 38 types of human data.

Previously, banks found a new way to protect customers from fraudsters. So, VTB will provide all its customers with the opportunity to limit the receipt of a loan through the Internet Bank or a mobile application. Thus, customers will be able to better protect against scammers using social engineering methods to obtain borrowed funds. Thanks to the new way to protect clients, the fraudster will not be able to get a loan, even if it presents all the information about the borrower, and does not recognize the reason for the refusal.
