Russian counterfeit market predicted an increase of 10 percent

The Russian market of counterfeit products according to the results of 2021 can grow by 10 percent, up to 6.5 trillion rubles. This is reported by Kommersant with reference to the BrandMonitor study.

According to the forecast, the most frequently formed categories of goods will be clothing and shoes of luxury brands (273 billion rubles), sports shoes (72 billion) and children’s goods (30 billion). The rest of the counterfeit is perfumery, cosmetics, furniture, auto parts and accessories for mobile phones. In total, 60 percent of the detected counterfeit will fall out to the share of non-food products, the remaining 40 percent – food.

On November 25, it became known that over the past five years, against the background of various stakes of tobacco excise tax in Russia and the EAEU countries, leading to a high proportion of counterfeit, the Russian budget has launched hundreds of billions of rubles due to large volumes of illegal products. Accounting Chamber came to this conclusion: the total volume of losses since 2016, auditors were assessed at 295.6 billion rubles, of which 246.3 billion falls on the laffected tobacco excise tax, and the rest is the value added tax that was not paid. 93 percent of illegal tobacco products from EAEU countries accounted for Belarus.
