“Spies of Russia” was charged in Bulgaria

Bulgarian Prosecutor’s Office charged the Bulgarian military group detained by this spring on suspicion of espionage. They are accused of worked on Russia, and their leader allegedly graduated from school staff in Moscow. It is reported by the Associated Press news agencies with reference to Bulgarian sources.

The group arrested in March of this year includes retired and current servicemen, including a former high-ranking official of the military intelligence service of Bulgaria. According to the investigation, he was the organizer of the Group, which collected secret and important information for Russian external intelligence. Documents were allegedly transferred to the embassy through his wife – she has Russian citizenship.

Among the suspects are also officials of the Bulgarian Defense Ministry and former Military Attache. Two arrested are also accused of illegal possession of a fireman. When the group’s detention first became known, in the Russian embassy demanded to “stop speculation” on the intended intelligence activities of the Russian Federation.

Earlier in November, the Bulgarian President Rumen Radhev on the ether of national television and radio appreciated the possibility of hostility with Russia. In his opinion, Moscow cannot be an enemy of Sofia, a dialogue is needed with it.
