US asked Russia to influence the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko due to the situation with migrants. This was stated by the official representative of the White House of Jen Psaki, her words lead RIA Novosti.

She stressed that the United States continues to work closely with European partners and other allies in order to raise the “continuing attack” of the Belarusian leader.

Psaki added that it includes and preparing further sanctions. At the same time, she refused to answer the question, whether Washington considers the Russian authorities for the crisis on the border of Belarus and Poland.

“We continue to call Russia and encourage it directly to use their influence on Lukashenko regimen,” the representative of the White House concluded.

Previously, the EU Supreme Representative on Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrol said that in the near future the fifth package of the European Union sanctions against Belarus will be adopted, this time due to the migration crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border. As a result of amending the mechanism of antibelorussian restrictions, the European Union will be able to impose restrictions on individuals and legal entities that contribute to the policy regime of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on provoking the migration crisis.
