Pilot-cosmonaut, Russia’s hero Mikhail Kornienko revealed the risk of colliding by the International Space Station (ISS) with cosmic garbage. Cosmonaut told Izvestia on the acts of the crew when the risk of a collision occurs.
Kornienko noted that the late detection of the cosmic garbage can lead to a collision with it and a breakdown of the ISS case. The plant crew has a backup time to search for breakdowns and sealing a damaged area. He stressed that in case of a critical reduction in pressure, the crew should descend on the land on the ship.
According to the cosmonaut, tracking stations allow you to learn about the threat of a collision in a few days. In some cases, a dangerous fragment can be seen before convergence from the ISS. In this case, the plant crew is covered with a spacecraft.
Previously, experts from the Moscow Region Control Center recommended the astronauts to switch to the Soyuz MS-19 ship. It was expected that the station would close with cosmic garbage at 10:06 Moscow time.
Later, from the negotiations of the crew of the station with the Earth, it became known that the garbage flew past the ISS. Cosmonauts were allowed to leave the ship until the next rapprochement. Space garbage can come closer to the station again.
On October 10, a maneuver of the oscillage of the ISS from a collision with cosmic garbage is made in the flight control center. The station was approaching the chip of the Chinese meteorology Fengyun-1c.
