Lavrov responded to words about Russia’s involvement in migration crisis in EU

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov responded to accusations of Moscow involvement in the migration crisis on the border of Poland and Belarus. His words lead RIA Novosti.

Russian Foreign Minister in the negotiations with France in the format “2 + 2” said that the European Union should not have a double approach to the situation with migrants on the Polish-Belarusian border. “And we explained the situation in which there should be no double standards compared to how the migrants are treated in other EU countries, and not on the border with Belarus,” Lavrov stressed.

He called on the European Union (EU) to act in one vein, fully respecting the fundamental principles of international humanitarian law. Also, according to Lavrov, he does not think that the Russian side persuaded French colleagues, but Russia has arguments with which France did not argue, only called for help to convince the Belarusian authorities to solve the problem.

Earlier, the deputy head of the European Union’s foreign policy service (EEAS) revealed the details of telephone conversations, which he spent from the Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Sergey Aleinik on the migration crisis on the border with Poland. At the same time, he stated that sanctions remain the main way of impact on the Belarusian authorities. What restrictions and in what order to introduce the heads of the European Union countries will agree on November 15, at a meeting of the EU Council.

The migration crisis on the border of Belarus and the EU countries began after Lukashenko threatened to weaken control over the flow of refugees and drug trafficking. It happened against the background of the next exacerbation of relations between Minsk and the West.
