Five icebreakers will be built in Russia until 2033

The program for the development of the Auxiliary Fleet of Russia until 2033 provides for the construction of new ships. For the supply of garrisons in the extreme north, it is planned to build five icebreakers and universal vessels. This is reported by TASS with reference to the deputy head of the headquarters of the material and technical support of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Andrei Efimova.

During the round table, the Council of the Federation of Efimov noted that in the framework of the program for the development of the Auxiliary Fleet of Russia, the construction of five icebreakers and three universal transport ships is provided. According to him, new ships will expand the possibilities of the fleet to supply the regions of the Far North.

In 2022, the icebreaker “Evpathy Kolovrat” is planned to be taken to the Navy (Navy). The vessel is built according to the upgraded project of 21180m. New icebreakers differ from the ships of the project 21180 with reduced dimensions and sediment. This will allow you to use icebreakers in shallow water. Also, ships will equip the automated control system “Bay-Lux-21180”.

Efimov stressed that through the northern sea route, ships deliver up to half of goods for the needs of the military in the extreme north. Therefore, in 2017, the Auxiliary Fleet of the Navy of Russia included diesel-electric icebreaker Ilya Muromets and two vessels of the “Elbrus”, which can go through a layer of ice thick up to 80 centimeters.

Earlier it became known that the Russian Corvettes of the 20380 Type “Unregular” project will be upgraded. It was specified that ships will receive new radars and improved air defense systems.
