EU will approve a new package of sanctions against Belarus

European Union (EU) will present a new package of sanctions against Belarus. This TASS informed the source in the foreign policy service of the EU.

According to the European diplomat, restrictions will be approved during November. “We work on the next package of sanctions against Belarus,” he clarified.

Also, the source reported that Belarus will be represented by an “empty chair” at the Summit of the Eastern Partnership in Brussels on December 15, as the representatives of the authorities will not attend the event. However, a diplomat added, separate representatives of civil society can be invited there.

October 7, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on Belarus, in which the EU called on the fifth package of sanctions against the republic against the background of aggravation of the migration crisis at the borders of Poland, Lithuania and Latvia. The document contains proposals on the inclusion in the package of economic sanctions of the metallurgical, woodworking and chemical sectors.

In late June, the European Union introduced the fourth package of economic sanctions against Belarus due to the incident with the Ryanair aircraft. Under them were 166 physical and 15 legal entities. Brussels restricted the access of Minsk to its financial markets, introduced restrictions on the trade in petroleum products and potash fertilizers, as well as tobacco products.

On June 28, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus stated that in connection with the sanctions, the country suspends its participation in the “Eastern Partnership” program due to sanction pressure.
