Court of Kyrgyzstan reanimated sentence to former president

The Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan reanimates the verdict of the former president of the Republic of Almazbek Atambayev in the case of the illegal release of the criminal authority of Aziz Batukayev in 2013. According to him, now Atambayev is again considered sentenced to 11 years in prison with confiscation.

The lawyer added that the Supreme Court did it at the request of the General Prosecutor’s Office, which called the decision to cancel the sentence of false and fiction in essentially. “That is, the court agreed that then he illegally canceled the sentence,” said Slicer.

A lawyer added that now the Supreme Court will have to consider the same thing again and make another decision. At the same time, he noted that the decision is already actually accepted, and the meeting will most likely be formal.

Atambayev was sentenced to 11 years and two months of imprisonment for corruption in the exemption of the criminal authority of Aziza Batukayev. The former President of Kyrgyzstan claims that all charges nominated against him are political. In November 2020, the court overturned a prison term at 11 years and two months appointed as a sentence. The case was then sent to re-examination.

At the same time, the court began revising criminal cases against the ex-president about the mass riots, which began in the summer of 2019 during the detention of Atambayev in his residence in the village of Koy-Tash. The former president was charged with corruption, illegal enrichment, the organization of the seizure of power, as well as in the murder of his supporters of the special forces with resistance.
