According to the intelligence department of the US Department of Defense, the Navy of Russia is increasing not only the numerical composition of the fleet, but also expands the shock capabilities. The publication notes that the Russian Fleet includes destroyers, frigates and cruisers. These ships complements 70 submarines and a large number of corvettes, travelers and patrol boats.
The author emphasizes that the average age of Russian ships is 25 years, which causes the need for modernization. According to him, modernized ships will be able to stay in the ranks for another 40 years.
According to Atlamazoglu, the age of Russian ships can compensate for their armament. He recalled that Russian cargo ships may carry a container complex of rocket weapons “Calibr-K” with cruise missiles. This will allow to oppose a large number of small vessels with subsonic and hypersonic missiles with modern combat ships.
“Despite its shortcomings and problems, the Navy of Russia is still a significant force and may be a serious threat to the United States in case of conflict,” concluded atlamazoglu.
Earlier, a member of the Board of Directors of YugrefTransFlot, Viktor Cat, spoke about the possibility of installing a mobile complex “Calibr-K” on the double-purpose transport refrigerator type “Ivan Papanin”. Elements of the complex are made in the form of a standard cargo container.
