Former President of France accused of summit in harassment

Ex-Prime Minister Helle Torning Schmitt accused the former President of France Valerie Giscard d’Esthen in harassment during the summit, which was held in the French Embassy in Copenhagen. This politician told in his memoirs, quotation leads France24.

The meeting was chaired by Jichard as part of the Congress of politicians, the purpose of which was the development of the Constitution of the European Union in 2002 or 2003. At that time, the French politician was no longer president of the country, but participated in the meetings of the Constitutional Council of France. “I saw that Zhiscard d’Esthen sat down next to me. He grabbed me for the thigh, stretching his hand under the table … I moved to another place,” wrote Thorning Schmitt. She acknowledged that then did not consider it sexual harassment, although he was angry with the actions of the French policy.

Former President of France Valerie Giscard D’Esthen died aged 94 years in December 2020. Politician was hospitalized in mid-November of the same year due to heart failure.
