US called on China to reduce purchase of Iranian oil

The United States turned to China with a call to reduce the purchase of Iranian crude oil, writes Reuters.

Exports of raw materials in the PRC helped Iran’s economy, which is under US sanctions. They are called upon to limit oil sales to other countries and put pressure on Tehran to resume negotiations on returning to a joint comprehensive action plan (CSPD) on the Iranian nuclear program, as the American side wants.

“We used and apply our sanctions authority to respond to the evasion of Iran from sanctions, including through the management of cases with Chinese companies. However, we approach this issue with China diplomatic means,” said a high-ranking US official. According to the analytical company Kpler, the import of Iranian oil to China from the beginning of the year amounted to 553 thousand barrels per day.

In July, US was going to introduce tough sanctions against Iran due to oil supply to China.
