Pentagon commented on the launch of the new hypersonic rocket. According to representatives of the department, during the tests, it showed a speed of five times the speed of sound. It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the advanced development agency in the Pentagon (DARPA).
Rocket was created by Raytheon. It received Northrop Grummann engines operating on carbon fuel and air mixtures.
The purpose of the test was to work out the launch and secure uncoverning of the projectile from the aircraft, the launch of the engines and the cruising flight, as well as the integration of the rocket. The Pentagon reported that all major tasks of the test were performed.
It is reported that for the US military is the first successful test of this kind since 2013.
Earlier on the video captured the launch of the tactical missile of the Soviet complex “Point” in Bulgaria. It was produced in the framework of the combat shooting at the Shabla Polygon. The video shows the successful launch of the rocket from the Soviet tactical complex 9k79 “Point” and the defeat of the educational purpose.
