At the end of June, the European Union introduced the fourth package of economic sanctions against Belarus. Under them were 166 physical and 15 legal entities. Brussels restricted the access of Minsk to its financial markets, introduced restrictions on the trade in petroleum products and potash fertilizers, as well as tobacco products.

The restrictions were connected to the United Kingdom, USA and Canada. On August 9, on the anniversary of the presidential elections in Belarus, the same countries approved a number of restrictions in the relations of the Potash Industry of the Republic.

The causes of sanctions were the actions of the Belarusian authorities against opposition leaders, violence against protesters, as well as forced landing of the Ryanair aircraft.
