UN demanded to investigate death of refugees on border of Poland and Belarus

The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) demanded to investigate the death of refugees from the countries of the Middle East on the border of Poland and Belarus. This became known from the joint statement of organizations on the UNHCR website.

According to their information, the number of deaths and severe wounds among illegal migrants is constantly increasing, which causes serious concern among the international community. Therefore, in this case, it is necessary to act in accordance with international legal norms, giving the priority of human rights compliance.

“Many were left in a difficult situation and suffer from hypothermia,” said UNHCR and IOM. The parties also called for migrants all the necessary assistance, to provide them with access to medical services and provide them with housing, especially before the onset of cold weather.

On September 20, Polish border guards found the body of three migrants in the forest belt, who tried to illegally penetrate the country from the territory of Belarus. The authorities of the country intend to initiate a criminal case due to what happened and carefully investigate all the circumstances of the death of refugees.

On the same day, a group of illegal migrants from the countries of the Middle East was lost in the forest and stuck in a swamp on the Polish-Belarusian border.
