All new Starlink satellites will get a laser connection

All-run Space Applications Satellite Internet Systems StarLink will be equipped with laser terminals, Spacenews reports SPACEX President Gwynn Sothel.

According to her, the presence of laser communication between spacecraft will reduce the dependence of the system from ground stations and reduce the signal delay time (ping).

Running on the Falcon 9th first batch of the updated Starlink spacecraft equipped with laser terminals is scheduled for mid-September this year. The first ten experimental satellites of the system received lasers were launched on a polar orbit in January.

In September last year, the Asstechnica edition reported that Spacex began testing an interpersonal connection between STARLINK spacecraft, as a result of which about 100 gigabytes of data were transmitted between a pair of satellites using a laser connection.

In November 2019, the Breaking Defense edition reported that in December 2018, the Pentagon under the Defense Experimentation using the Commercial Space Internet has spent several experiments with the Starlink American SPACEX company SPACEX system.
