Holding “High-precision Complexes” of the State Corporation “Rostech” studies the possibility of creating a light wheel floating tank with a 125-mm cannon. It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the deputy chief designer of the Volgograd Tractor Plant Vladimir Budueva.
According to a specialist, in the corporation plan to create a wheel tank from “Sprut-SDM1”. “What specifically the wheelbase will put the module – the question is open, since today there are many successful wheel chassis in the Russian Federation today, and everything depends on the final purpose of the wheel tank, on which troops it will have to go,” said Budaev .
He also expressed the assumption that the tank will be focused on export. According to the constructor, in Russia, the priority is traditionally given to the caterpillar chassis, so the use of the wheeled tank in the armed forces is less likely.
Earlier it was reported that Russian engineers are ready to modernize Soviet T-55 tanks for foreign operators. Representatives of the enterprise are negotiating with customers. Tank T-55 became the development of T-54 – the production of a new car began in 1958. For 21 years, over 23 thousand tanks were released, some of which were transferred to foreign operators.
