United States fears growth of terrorist activity on eve of anniversary of September 11

US internal intelligence and counter-terrorism agencies fear that terrorist organizations activate the recruitment of radicals against the background of the twentieth anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 in New York. This is reported by CNN with reference to the joint document of the three departments.

The document states that in recent Publications of Al-Qaida and ISIL (terrorist organizations prohibited in Russia) in the media, both groupings used references to 9/11 terrorist attacks and to the recent conclusion of the American military contingent from Afghanistan. The FBI, the Ministry of Internal Security, as well as the National Counter-Terrorism Center of the United States expressed concern that, in this background, terrorists can start recruiting new supporters among local extremists.

The document clarifies that at the moment the departments have not yet have information on specific threats related to the anniversary of the terrorist attack, but do not exclude that mass meetings of people can attract the attention of radicals and become the object of a possible attack.

On September 11, 2001, a series of terrorist attacks occurred in the United States. Then the terrorists sent two liners in the Tower of the World Trade Center in New York, and the third – in the Pentagon building in Washington. Responsibility for what happened to the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda (prohibited in Russia) and its leader Usama Bin Laden, who was hidden in Afghanistan. American special forces discovered and killed him in May 2011.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden signed a decree on decaying individual materials of the investigation, which are related to the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001. Remove the vulture of secrecy from these documents the American leader promised during the election race.
