Poland: introduced an improved T-72 tank

in Poland provided an improved version of the Soviet T-72M1 tank. The T-72M1R modification, shown in the international defense exhibition MSPO-2021, received new fire management systems, communications and observations. It is reported by the Army Recognition portal.

Tanks, modernized at the ZM Bumar-łabęday plant, received an improved engine in-46-6 with a digital start-up system. The location of the driver equipped with a new PNK-72 observation instrument, and the standard commander’s observation device gave way to the POD-72 model. In turn, the gunner integrated the thermal imaging chamber of the third generation KLW-1 Asteria was integrated into the gunner’s sight. Also T-72M1R received new digital internal and external communication systems.

Modernization of tanks is made within the framework of the contract signed between the inspectorate of providing the Armed Forces of Poland and the Consortium of the Polska Zbrojeniowa S.A. Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa S.A. (PGZ) in 2019. The agreement implies the modernization of 230 T-72M tanks and T-72M1. These modifications were produced in Poland for the Soviet license until 1993.

Previously the former head of the NATO NATO-East Multinational Corps command suggested that new Russian tanks have advantages over Polish modifications T-72.
