Soviet BMP modernized in Poland

At the international defense exhibition MSPO-2021 in Poland, the modernized Soviet BMP infantry combat machine was presented. Company WZM S. A. Demonstrated a new version of the machine with a modernized case and tower, reports the Defence 24 portal.

The basis of the new model is the BWP-1 infantry combat vehicle, which is a licensed copy of the Soviet BMP-1. Polish constructors increased the machine housing by lifting the roof level. Also in the modernized BMP moved fuel tanks, and the base of the tower was removed. This made it possible to increase the volume of the landing off, and improve the conditions of the crew.

The ballistic protection of the upgraded machine corresponds to the third level of stanag 4569, which protects against the fire of the armor-piercing bullets of the 9.62 caliber cartridge by 39 millimeters. Optionally, the security can be enhanced to the fourth level, which will allow the shelling of armor-piercing bullets of sniper rifles and large-caliber machine guns.

The car received a circular review system that increases the crew situational awareness. Upgraded BMP equipped with new communication systems, air conditioning and fire equipment. Also, BMP received a SSP-1 laser radiation warning system, which masks a machine from anti-tank missile guidance systems.

At the request of the customer, the standard engine can give way to the German power unit MTU 6R 106 TD21 with a capacity of 326 horsepower. In turn, the standard tower was replaced by a uninhabited combat module John Cockerill 1030. The machine can be equipped with a 100 or 40 millimeters a car of a Bushmaster MK 44. The main instrument is supplemented with a paired machine gun and start-up installation of anti-tank managed missiles.

Defense 24 authors note that the prototype of the modernized BMP has already passed numerous tests. If the military will be interested in the modernized machine, it will become an intermediate option between outdated BWP-1 modifications and a promising BMP BSUK.

Previously, it became known about the beginning of the tests of promising armored vehicles on the Wheel Platform “Boomerang”. The armored personnel carrier K-16 and the C-17 infantry combat vehicle entered the state test. After their completion, the pilot-industrial batch of cars will go to the troops.
