German environmentalists demanded to stop “Northern Stream-2”

The non-profit organization on the protection of the environment Deutsche Umwellfe (DUH) sent a request to the Federal Office for Shipping and Hydrography of Germany demanding to evaluate the influence of the “Northern Flow-2” on the environment and revised the permits issued earlier. This is reported on the official website of the organization.

Duh called “Northern Stream-2” project, due to which carbon dioxide emissions will officially be paid from the budget of Germany. Environmentalists promised to continue the search for legitimate methods to prevent the launch of the largest project in Europe related to fossil fuel.

“Northern Stream-2” cannot be launched without analyzing its further influence on the climate. The operation of the gas pipeline will lead to giant emissions of greenhouse gases, which contradicts the German climatic goals in the framework of the Paris Climate Agreement, “the organization said.

This is not the first attempt of ecologists from DUH to prevent project implementation. In June, activists insisted on a temporary stopping of the pipeline laying to assess its impact on the environment.

On September 10, the head of Gazprom, Alexey Miller, announced the completion of the construction of “Northern Flow-2”. On the eve, September 15, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the object certification, not a rapid process and allowed that it will end only at the beginning of 2022.
