The Chairman of the PRC Si Jinping refused to president of the USA Joe Biden in the summit. This became known FINANCIAL TIMES from two sources familiar with the details of a telephone conversation of two leaders, RIA Novosti reports.
According to the interlocutors of the publication, Biden suggested a meeting at the highest level during a 90-minute conversation between the leaders who took place last week. “The President of the United States proposed Si to hold the summit to get out of a dead end in the US-Chinese relationship,” the article says. However, Xi Jinping rejected this proposal, pointing to the need for Washington to choose “less sharp tone against Beijing.”
It is noted that the refusal “brought a number of US officials to the conclusion that Beijing continues to lead a tough game with Washington.”
During the same conversation, Joe Biden and Si Jinping discussed COVID-19 and its origin. The press secretary of the White House, Jen Psaki, stressed that the Presidential Administration of the United States seeks to reveal the reasons for the pandemic, which is one of its “main concerns.”
