Predicted terms of lower prices for red caviar in Russia

Prices for the caviar of the humpback and parts of other salmon fish will continue to decline in Russia for one to one and a half months. Such a forecast in an interview with the Russian Gazette was made by the head of the Federal Agency for Fishing Ilya Shestakov.

According to him, since the beginning of the year, more than 510 thousand tons of Pacific salmon were caught in Russia, which is 90 percent more than last year’s indicators. The official predicted that this factor will provide prices further decline. “It is just necessary to take into account that it does not happen overnight. Putin is over, but the production is still continuing,” said Shestakov.

He also noted that the wholesale prices for caviar have already fallen by 10 percent compared with the previous year, however, stressed that the direct relationship between the manufacturer’s price and the price in the store does not exist. “The logistic path of fresh products to the central regions is just beginning,” the head of the department stressed.

Sales of red caviar in retail over the past year collapsed in physical expression by 20 percent. Russians bought a packaged red caviar to 7.5 percent less frequently than a year earlier. Since the beginning of January and before the Putin season, natural packaged red caviar has risen in price by more than 40 percent.
