The head of the Australian Ministry of Defense Pitter Dutton said that in the near future Canberra can buy or rent submarines in the United States and the UK. His statement quotes Sky News Australia.
The minister said that the submarines are needed to re-equip the fleet now. The completion of the construction of the first atomic submarines in Australia is scheduled for 2036.
“I have already met with several colleagues [from Washington and London],” Datton noted.
