Spanish police caught former head of Venezuela military intelligence

The Spanish police in Madrid caught the former head of the Military intelligence of Venezuela Hugo Armando Carvakhal in connection with the accusation of drug trafficking. This is reported by the Deutsche Welle newspaper.

The law enforcement officers detained Carvakhal in his apartment in the center of the capital of Spain. “He lived completely secluded, did not go outside and did not look out the window, always being under the protection of trusted persons,” reported in the police.

The head of military intelligence was in the runs since November 2019. He was wanted by the US authorities on charges of illicit drug trafficking. According to the indictment presented in 2011, he coordinated the supply of more than 5.6 tons of cocaine from Venezuela to the United States. The Spanish court satisfied the US request for extradition.

Carvachal lost his post and ran from Venezuela after supported the opponent of President Nicholas Maduro Juan Guido.
