China: battery without cobalt was invented

The Chinese Battery Manufacturer SVOLT reported on the creation of a first cobalt battery. This is reported by Prnewswire.

The company’s press release says that Svolt is ready to begin mass production of such batteries. At the Chengdu Auto Show, the Corporation showed the first power unit with a capacity of 82.5 kilowatt-hour, installed on the electric coaster Great Wall Motors. According to the representatives of SVOLT, at normal temperatures, the battery that does not have in its composition cobalt allows you to drive a car 373 miles or about 600 kilometers on one charge. Also with the new battery, the electric car can accelerate to a hundred kilometers per hour in less than five seconds.

Invented by Chinese engineers, the battery provides a high degree of energy holding and fast heating under conditions of low temperatures. Also, the battery is protected from moisture and dust on the IP67 standard.

“The use of cobalt is an important new problem, since the world stocks of this material are limited about 7.1 million tons,” the press release is noted. The company’s report says that for the development of a battery without cobalt took several years, more than 77 million dollars were spent on the project.

Cobalt is a key element in the production of batteries, which operates all modern electronics, including electric cars. 60 percent of this metal is mined in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the working conditions and human rights are violated when mining cobalt.

Earlier, the entrepreneur Ilon Mask criticized Apple. Mask noticed that the manufacturer of the iPhone uses more cobalt in its batteries than Tesla, thus reproaching the Cook Cook’s Corimation in the ecology damage.
