On August 18, also in the Astrakhan region, MiG-29 suffered a crash during a training flight on the territory of Polygon Ashuluk. The plane fell in a deserted place during the execution of a planned flight. As a result of the catastrophe pilot MiG-29 died. The flight was performed without ammunition.
Honored military pilot of Russia Vladimir Popov among the possible causes of the crash of the fighter pointed to difficult meteo conditions that could arise due to the proximity of the Mountains of Dagestan and the Caspian Sea. In particular, he did not rule out the aircraft entering the thunderstorm cloudiness.
