Belarus recovered consent to appointment of new US ambassador

MFA Belarus withdrew the previously issued consent to the appointment of Julie Fisher by the US ambassador in Minsk. On this August 11, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the press secretary of the ministry.

In addition, the Foreign Ministry suggested Washington until September 1 to reduce the number of his embassy to five people.

“It is a pity that arrogant and frankly hostile actions of the American side, as well as the act of certain representatives of the diplomacy and professionalism, the actions of the individual representatives destroyed the work of predecessors and forced us to withdraw the previously issued consent of the Republic of Belarus to the appointment of Fisher US Ambassador in our country “,” Press Secretary of Foreign Minister Anatoly Eye.

Fisher was appointed ambassador in December 2020. At the same time, since 2008, there was no American ambassador in Belarus. Representative offices of the two countries headed temporary attorneys. The parties recalled ambassadors after the sanctions entered in relation to Minsk.

On August 9, the United States introduced new sanctions against Belarus. The National Olympic Committee, the enterprises of the defense and energy sectors, tobacco and potash industry, transport and construction industries. Sanctions apply to people whose Washington considers it involved in violation of human rights.

The relationship between Belarus and the West once again aggravated after in May 2021 in Minsk made an emergency landing airline Ryanair, flying from Athens to Vilnius. The dispatcher informed about the bomb laid on board. Later, the threat of the explosion was not confirmed. After landing, the airliner was detained by the ex-head of the opposition telegram channel NEXTA Roman Protasevich.
