Russia will be focus of NATO

Russia will be the focus of NATO on the upcoming summit on June 14th. This was announced by Amanda Slat, Senior Director for Europe of the Council of National Security (SNB) in the White House, her words reported TASS.

Politician noted that the North Atlantic Alliance will discuss Russia as part of the discussion about new threats in the international arena. “The summit will allow to discuss what needs to be taken to respond to existing and new threats,” she emphasized. The layer stated that the United States advocated the development of relations with Moscow by direct contact between the leaders.

She also said that US President Joe Biden confirms NATO’s commitment on the upcoming summit. According to politics, the American leader will express the readiness to comply with the fifth article of the Washington Treaty on the collective defense, according to which the attack on any country of the Alliance becomes an attack on all its members.

Earlier, the Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg called the meaning of the Dialogue of the Alliance with Russia. According to him, Western countries need to reduce tension with Moscow. Thus, he commented on the timeliness of the meeting of the presidents of the United States and Russia. The Secretary General believes that this step corresponds to a dual approach to Moscow in which the containment and defense are combined with a dialogue.

Meeting of the presidents of Russia and the United States will be held on June 16 in Geneva.
