Cheap imported apples became a problem of Russia

Russian gardeners warned about the risks of the breakdown of import substitution and mass bankruptcies in the industry because of cheap products from abroad. Apples became a serious problem, first of all from Iran and Moldova, writes Kommersant.

Heads of the Union “Gardeners of the Kuban”, Associations of Pitnikovodov and Gardeners of the Stavropol Territory, the Union “Gardeners of Dagestan” and the Association of Sadovodes of Russia sent an appeal to the premiere of Mikhail Mishuvina with a request to introduce seasonal quotas for the import of fruits. Competition with them Russian manufacturers do not stand.

As they say, the price of fertilizers, containers, fuel and lubricants took off this year. As a result, the cost of apple production in the country has grown one and a half times.

And at the same time, the vacation price for cherry and summer maturation apples fell half to year. The cost of apples in Russia is 30 rubles per kilogram, but in the wholesale apples go 15-25 rubles.

The head of the “Kuban Gardeners” Nikolai Shcherbakov offered in the season to actively collect and implement apples to limit their imports by 40 percent of consumption. The director of the fruit and vegetable Union Mikhail Glushkov noted that this measure would really help, but will lead to a rise in prices in stores. That is why he believes, the authorities ignore the gardener request.

In the Ministry of Agriculture, commenting on the letter, noted that the restriction of imports requires a thorough assessment of the impact on the market not only from the point of view of food security, but also in terms of preserving a stable price level.

Earlier it was reported that in Russia the prices for bananas reached the level of 2016 and updated the five-year maximum. The reasons were the fall of the ruble exchange rate and the growth of transportation costs.
